Set on the steep cliffs of the western side of the Arpaçay River Valley (Arpaçay Deresi Vadisi), which separates the Turkish-Armenian border, this secluded monastery was built at the starting point of the caravan road to ancient Ani. Dedicated to the nuns of Saint Hripseme, the building was called the Surp Hripsime Monastery
