The castle, built on the banks of the Tigris River in the city center of Cizre, consists of an outer castle and an inner castle. The castle, whose construction process can be traced from the Roman and Byzantine periods from the ruins, has survived to the present day as it was during the period from the XIIth century to the XVIth century, that is, during the period of the Mosul Atabekids and the Beys of Cizre.
