The old city centre of Antalya; Kaleiçi, where the beauty of old and new meet, is surrounded by walls from inside and outside. These walls, some of which have survived until today, were built by various civilisations that lived here for more than 2 thousand years. Inside the walls, there are traditional houses lined around the narrow streets leading to the harbour. Two or three storey houses with one facade facing the street and the other facing the garden perfectly reflect the atmosphere of old Antalya.
The ancient harbour in Kaleiçi is now used as a modern marina. Together, the marina and the ancient city have created a magnificent landscape that has inspired many painters, writers and poets. You can sip your drink with a sea view in the restaurants and cafes around the marina or take a pleasant journey along the cliffs with daily sightseeing boats.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism was awarded the Golden Apple Tourism Oscar award by FIJET (International Tourism Writers Association) for the restoration project carried out in Kaleiçi, which was taken under protection in 1984.
Kaleiçi is the heart and touristic attraction centre of Antalya with its historical buildings converted into food and beverage, accommodation and entertainment facilities such as hotels, pensions, restaurants and bars; streets decorated with bougainvillea, each corner full of beauties waiting to be discovered; and colourful shops selling local products and souvenirs.
