The Red Madrasa was built on the ruins of the city walls to the west of the city. Inside the madrasa is the family cemetery of the emirs of Cizre and the tomb of Sheikh Ahmet Al-Jazari, a scientist, poet and man of letters. The exact date of construction is unclear due to the lack of a building inscription and a foundation. Experts date it to the first quarter of the 14th century.
The interior of the madrasa has a courtyard, with classrooms, dining hall and teacher's lodgings to the east, west and north. To the southwest of the madrasa is a square room decorated with beautiful motifs. This room was used by the poet and writer Sheikh Ahmet Al-Jazari, and Sheikh İbrahim Sori, one of the grandfathers of Mütfü Molla Zade, also worked in this room.
The madrasa was named the Red Madrasa because it was built with red bricks unique to Cizre.
