Safranbolu, which lived the 17th century in a great architectural development, continued its development in the 18th century. Safranbolu houses, which surround the historical buildings in Safranbolu, consist of approximately 2000 traditional Turkish houses built in the 18th and 19th centuries and early 20th century in the district centre. About 800 of these works are under legal protection. The houses are grouped in two different parts of Safranbolu. The first one is known as "City" and is used for winter and the second one is known as "Vineyards" and is used for summer. Safranbolu houses are the most beautiful examples of Ottoman civil architecture. The mansions under protection provide restaurant and accommodation services.
