The museum building, together with its garden, is built on an area of one thousand 290 square meters. Built between 1910 and 1915 by Major Baha Bey, the head of the Military Branch of the period, as a three-storey house with a ground floor, the house was later purchased by Hasan Cavit Bey, a close friend of Atatürk and a member of parliament. On June 17, 1922, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk met with his mother and stayed for three days in this house, which was severely damaged in the earthquake in 1967. In 1983, the house, which was registered as an example of civil architecture, was expropriated by our Ministry and rebuilt in reinforced concrete with its exterior appearance in accordance with its original appearance and completely modified inside.

Sakarya Museum started its office services for the first time on January 12, 1989 within the Provincial Directorate of Culture and moved to its current location on March 7, 1989. The museum was opened to the public on June 21, 1993 after the exhibition arrangement made by collecting archaeological and ethnographic artifacts found within the borders of the province.

In the garden of the museum, architectural pieces, tombstones, altars, written stones, ostotecs, terracotta food jars and column bases from the Roman and Byzantine periods found within the borders of Sakarya province are exhibited. In the exhibition hall of the museum, archaeological artifacts from prehistoric times, Roman and Byzantine periods and ethnographic artifacts from the Ottoman and Republican periods are exhibited. Archaeological artifacts include flat hand axes, terracotta pots, fragrance and tear bottles, metal and glass artifacts. Ethnographic artifacts include items used by the Great Leader Atatürk, firearms and cutting weapons from the Ottoman and Republican periods, copper vessels, seals and hand embroidery.
